Job Description
Make a meaningful difference in the lives of students by providing specialized support as a Deaf and Hard of Hearing Teacher in a vibrant school community. This full-time, contract position centers around enhancing educational opportunities for students who are deaf or hard of hearing for the upcoming school year. Your work will be pivotal in guiding students toward greater independence and success, both academically and personally.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver targeted instruction tailored to students with hearing impairments, focusing on their individual learning needs.
- Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) in collaboration with the educational team.
- Employ assistive technology, visual aids, and effective communication methodsincluding American Sign Language and other modalitiesto create accessible learning experiences.
- Work closely with classroom teachers, families, and multidisciplinary professionals to promote inclusion and effective learning strategies.
- Offer training and ongoing support to both school staff and family members to empower students in all aspects of school life.
Desired Qualifications:
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Special Education or related field.
- Current Illinois certification or licensure as a Deaf and Hard of Hearing Teacher.
- In-depth understanding of curriculum adaptations, assistive technology, and instructional strategies for students with hearing impairments.
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and familiarity with additional communication techniques.
- Strong skills in communication, teamwork, and advocacy.
