Special Education Teacher | Oakland, California

Step into a vital role supporting students who need exceptional care and educational encouragement as a Special Education Teacher. This contract opportunity, located in the Emeryville area, is set for the upcoming school year from August 19, 2026, through June 14, 2027. You will work full-time with a focused caseload, teaching and nurturing elementary-aged students (grades 1-5) in an ESN (Extensive Support Needs) setting. All five students on your caseload are non-verbal, and your expertise will help unlock their potential in the classroom and beyond.

The ideal candidate is a compassionate educator driven by a desire to provide tailored support to those with significant communication needs. An active California teaching credential for Special Education is required for this position.

What You'll Bring:

• Valid and active California Special Education credential
• Experience teaching or supporting non-verbal students, preferably in an ESN environment
• Understanding of diverse assistive technologies and AAC devices
• Competency in adapting curriculum and behavior plans to meet individualized education program (IEP) goals
• Patience, empathy, and clear communication with students, caregivers, and colleagues

Your Responsibilities Will Include:

• Delivering individualized instruction aligned with each student's IEP
• Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to address academic, communication, and behavioral needs
• Developing engaging lesson plans that foster learning and growth for non-verbal students
• Tracking student progress and documenting data to inform instructional adjustments
