ASL Interpreter | Navasota, Texas

Make an impact supporting K-12 learners by providing expert sign language interpretation services in an educational setting. In this per diem, contract position, you will play an essential role in bridging communication between Deaf or hard-of-hearing students, educators, and peers across a diverse range of grade levels and classroom environments.

Qualifications:

• Current SLI (Sign Language Interpreter) Certification valid in Texas
• BEI (Board for Evaluation of Interpreters) Certification required
• Experience working in educational settings or with K-12 age groups preferred
• Strong command of American Sign Language (ASL) and English
• Ability to interpret both one-on-one and in group/classroom situations
• Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
• Flexible, reliable, and comfortable working on an as-needed/per diem basis

Responsibilities:

• Accurately interpret spoken language into sign language and vice versa during classroom instruction, activities, meetings, and school events
• Facilitate clear communication between students, teachers, staff, and family members as required
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards outlined for interpreters in educational settings
• Support inclusion and equal access to educational opportunities for Deaf and hard-of-hearing students
• Adapt to various classroom settings and age groups from Kindergarten through 12th grade
• Collaborate with educational staff to ensure student understanding and engagement
